Dental School...HERE WE COME! (hopefully)

April 2010 Chris decided he wanted a career change. We were headed in the Dental profession direction. We lived with my parents for 8 months working for my dad saving money and taking some classes. We moved to Provo in December and started taking more classes. The summer of 2011 we decided we would apply to Dental Schools even though we knew he wasn't quite qualified. He had maybe 2 classes that he needed to have and he took the DAT and only got a 17. This is what my brother in law researched about the DAT ....

17- you can apply
                                                                         18- not bad
                                                     19- avg acceptance score...thats good
20- an attention getter
21-23- you killed it
+24- pick your school to interview at

haha not sure how true all of this is but we do know a 21 is a really great score so we feel really good. I just thought the last one was pretty funny! haha

So even though he got a 21 he went ahead and applied because some key people were telling us to just do it just in case by some chance he can get in. December 1st came around and we had no interviews. April came around and we had gotten most of our rejection letters and the last few we called around to to find out what he needed to be more qualified. So in May he started studying again and at this point he had taken all of the required Dental School applicant classes so we felt BETTER about applying again. He studied his butt off and worked really hard. Yesterday he had his test. It was so stressful and yet at the same time we were just ready for it to be OVER.
He went in around 1:40 and said he was sitting down for his test at 2:10. He said kept answering questions in disbelief that he was understanding them and feeling great about his answers (obviously it wasn't that way last time) He got to the end of the test just before 7 and was in shock and totally nervous. THese were his thoughts..."Oh no...this is it..I've done the whole thing..." hahaha He took the survey at the end of the test and jumped up to go get his score...he forgot though that the score comes up on the screen before he can go print it out. Luckily he was the only one left in the testing center because he said he let out a little shout of surprise. hahaha He couldn't believe it! He rushed home cheering the whole way.

I was planning for Chris to meet us at the football field for his inter mural game at 8:30. So I packed up the kiddos at 7 and ran over to Little Caesars to get a 5 buck pizza. I'm coming down our street and see a little white car parked out front. My thoughts... "wait...whose car is that?...That can't be our car....he would have called me!....well it does have a Texas license plate...does that car really look like that? I've never examined it enough to be sure..." HE JUST CAN'T BE HOME YET!" So I'm pulling into the parking lot and see the light on in our apt. I tell Grayson daddy's home go ring the doorbell. Chris sure enough was home apparently I missed his text. He opens the door with a very upset sad face (which he does a lot so I kind of knew he was messing with me) i close the door and said...well...He showed me the paper and screamed "I GOT A 21!!!!" I was totally shocked. WE had only hoped for him to get a 19 at least!!! We cheered and screamed and got teary eyed and Grayson got scared. hahaha We immediately got family on Skype to share the good news.

It's the next morning and we are still in shock. I can't believe it's finally over. Now he just has to have his new score sent in and send out the application for the other 30 schools we are applying to. We just want to be sure he will be accepted somewhere...even though yes that is a VERY awesome score. I think since this is his second year applying we are a little nervous.

We feel extremely blessed. We have worked really hard to change how we do things around our home now that Grayson is older we have a second baby and we just want to be better. We really worked hard to be consistent with our family prayers and food prayers, better at having a family home evening even if that's just us being together on monday night. We had a special family fast the beginning of this month, I fasted for him again this last sunday, and then we asked Chris grandpa to give him a special blessing. Not only just with the DAT but we feel blessed in general. Chris got a job, I've gotten two babysitting jobs to last through December, we sold our wrecked white car, I had a baby the normal way and feel wonderful. So many more things but those are the biggest ones. We are so grateful for these blessings, for our family members who have supported and helped us through these last few months while we have really struggled. We are also grateful to friends who have been so positive and encouraging. The power of prayer is amazing. What a blessing to get down on our knees and speak to a loving heavenly father. I am amazed at what it has taught our little Grayson. When we forget...he is there to remind us.

I am so grateful for my wonderful sweet hardworking husband.
Love this pic of him and Grayson. : )

The next step is to finish the 30 schools application, send in the new DAT score via e-mail. Hope to get interviews, if we get interviews, then hope to be accepted. But the plan always changes (as I spoke to my mom about yesterday) But we feel good. We would be happy to go anywhere but would really love to be in Texas at one of the 3 dental schools there because we have residency there.

Just had to add pics of our pretty little girl.

I just die when I see her face... "Mom why are you letting go of me and making me sit up like this?"
